Pakistan, China to jointly ensure transparency in CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR projects

Pakistan and China have agreed to jointly oversee the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR) and ensure transparency in the project as an agreement in this regard was signed between the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and beijing China.
The CPEC NEW INFO quoted NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, as saying, that corruption was the greatest evil being faced in the country and its eradication was the bureau's top priority.
He said that standard operating procedures (SOPs) were devised by the NAB to reduce the workload and timelines.
chaudhary added that timeline of maximum 10 months were prescribed for efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases from complaint verification-to-inquiry-to-investigation and finally to a reference in the accountability court.
The NAB Chief said a new system of Combined Investigation Team (CIT) was also introduced, so that investigators could derive benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior officers.
Asserting that the concept of CIT had proven to be successful in improving the quality of inquiry and investigations, Chaudhary said this system would lend quality to the work and also ensure that no one can influence proceedings.
Highlighting that Pakistan became the first country to lead the SAARC Anti-Corruption forum, Chaudhry said the NAB was a role model for SAARC Countries.
He said NAB had collaborated with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to create awareness about the ill-effects of corruption amongst the youth and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct over 42,000 Character Building Societies (CBSs) at universities and colleges across the country.

Corridor to ‘change region’s geo-economic balance’

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is vital for the economic development of the country and is bound to change the geo-economic balance of the region, Minister of Planning, Development & Reform Ahsan Iqbal said on Wednesday.
“Anti-state elements are propagating against it,” Ahsan Iqbal said, adding that economics not politics was important in the 21st century.
Addressing the seminar, CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR: Priorities and Challenges organized by the CPEC News Media Group, Ahsan said that we should shun the politics of blame-game and introduce ‘Made in Pakistan’ across the globe.
He stated that industrial parks will be built across Pakistan under CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR where Chinese investors will set up industries and create job opportunities for Pakistani workers.

Ahsan further said that China is going to invest $46 billion out of which $35 billion will be spent on power projects.
“Power projects will produce 10,000 MW of electricity,” he said stressing that the investment of $11 billion is a 20-year financing at a mark-up of two per cent.
“This investment is being spent on projects of infrastructure development.”
Minister said that Sindh has the highest share in the multi-billion dollar project ($9.1b), followed by Balochistan.
